The Al Maryam Journal

The craft behind every considered piece.

A closer look at the decisions, skills and coordination that take a leather product from first brief to delivery.

From the first brief / Featured story

From a product brief to a considered delivery.

Every project begins with understanding the brief: who the product is for, how it will be used, and which details the collection needs to carry. Those answers give design a practical place to start.

Material direction, proportion, construction and finish take shape during development. Product requirements and target costs need to be considered together, so the design can move toward a workable production plan.

At Al Maryam, product work also includes coordinating production, export and delivery requirements, then staying available for after-sales conversations. Keeping those stages connected helps the team respond to the needs of each order from first review onward.

Field notes

Ideas shaped by the way things are made.

Four perspectives on everyday use, workshop capability, changing style and the details behind an export order.

Designed to earn a place in the everyday.

A bag or accessory has to feel right in hand, sit comfortably in use and make its details easy to live with. Size, balance, access, compartments, closures and handle or strap comfort all shape that experience.

Bringing intended use into the early brief lets the team weigh practical choices alongside the collection’s silhouette, color and finish.

Where careful hands meet capable machinery.

At Al Maryam’s Kanpur operation, intricate craftsmanship works alongside Italian and German machinery. Hands-on skill matters where construction calls for careful detail, while equipment supports repeatable steps in a production run.

The balance is product-specific: process, finish and construction all need to agree with the approved design.

Keep the point of the product in view.

Fashion references can inform silhouette, color and surface, but not every trend belongs in every product. Development asks how a current detail fits its intended use, the chosen materials and the way the piece needs to be made.

That conversation helps a collection feel current without losing the function that made the product worth carrying.

Make delivery part of the product conversation.

Export and delivery details belong in order coordination, not as an afterthought. Packaging, documentation, buyer requirements and delivery timing all need to align with the production plan.

Clear handovers connect the approved product to shipment expectations, with after-sales support available when follow-up is needed.
